What an esports curriculum actually is
An esports curriculum is a structured programme of learning that uses competitive video games as the context for developing transferable academic, technical and life skills. It is not a tournament schedule, and it is not the same as running an after-school club. A curriculum has stated outcomes, sequenced lessons, assessment and a way to evidence learning to parents, leadership and inspectors.
Done well, an esports curriculum reaches students who are disengaged by traditional subjects and gives them a credible academic route into STEM, media, business and performance careers.
Why pedagogy must come before competition
The most common failure mode in scholastic esports is building everything around winning matches. Competition is a powerful motivator, but on its own it produces short-lived clubs that struggle to defend their place on the timetable.
A pedagogy-first design flips that order. Define the learning first, then choose the titles, tournaments and equipment that serve those outcomes. This is also the order that accreditation bodies, school boards and inspection frameworks expect to see.

Scope & sequence by age band
Build the programme in three phases so that students progress from foundations to specialisation to clear post-school pathways. Each band assumes roughly 30 hours of contact time per year.

Assessment, accreditation & EAF
Assessment is what turns activities into a curriculum. Use a blend of formative checks (peer review of VODs, lesson exit tickets, broadcast critiques) and a summative capstone such as designing and running an event with a written reflection.
